Digital Ecosystems are emerging that will accelerate a wide range of innovations as entrepreneurs create the products and services for next generation infrastructure.
Opportunities to create next generation products and services with high quality “apples to apples” data will enable the largest public agencies or private IT system programmers to develop platforms that can confidently exchange data with all project stakeholders, from the smallest enterprise to the largest international institutions.
As infrastructure data exchange becomes more extensive and reliable innovations in BIM, digital twins, spatial web, smart contracts, blockchain, digital payments and other next generation technologies will enable smart cities for greater energy, transportation and food resiliency.
Title
Next Generation Infrastructure – The “I” in BIM
Task
Success
Accelerating the adoption and implementation of digital ecosystems that results in significant cost savings across all stakeholders for next generation infrastructure that is sustainable, resilient and creates connected communities.
Outline
The Internship will provide students with subject mater experts and mentors to develop a scope and development roadmap to build the AI Agent for the FISTech platform as a model that can be replicated to accelerate the implementation and functionality of digital construction management systems based on open standards.
It is the ability for Finance, Insurance and Surety stakeholders to retrieve data in an importable format that expands the next generation infrastructure digital ecosystem to the capital markets.
Accelerated Digital Construction Management Systems
The internship sponsor is FISTech, a group of subject matter experts coordinating a synergized multi-industry response to the USDOT Accelerating Advanced Digital Construction Management Systems Program (ADCMS) that opens May 31,2026 with proposals due July 31, 2026.
The proposal is to expand the XBRL taxonomy to enable all the DOT’s to engage in the digital ecosystem utilizing existing federal data standards and to make sure any data elements required by any of the 50 DOT’s are included in the XBRL taxonomy for utilization in current or future systems.
Expanding the XBRL taxonomy will promote innovation of next generation products and services that enable next generation infrastructure, regardless of the type of infrastructure or what role the stakeholder has in the ecosystem.
Summary
A good chef knows how the sausage is made. The emergence of data interoperability will impact every aspect of construction and the communities they support.
How that data interoperability will ultimately emerge is still an open question. Having a part in the evolution to digital will help interns know how the sausage was made.
