2026 Symposium on Spatiotemporal Data Science
Background
The DOE Orange Button and Smart Grid Interoperability Panel initiatives sought to enable a digital ecosystem for energy infrastructure projects by transitioning to digital. The resulting FISTech model platform provides proof of concept and OB Alliance (501c3) is creating the digital product registry for the components that go into energy infrastructure systems. That high integrity granular infrastructure data, aggregated with multiple stakeholder relationships, will be providing underwriting data for the capital markets, Finance, Insurance and Surety (FISTech) by leveraging the existing technology of XBRL, ISO, NIBS and buildingSMART.
FISTech offered to sponsor a Startup AI Seed Contract to engage academia for its transparency with an educational opportunity as part of work force development. Texas A&M, DT-RICH at George Mason University (GMU) and Strategic Building Innovation (SBI) accepted the challenge. There were no rules, just opportunity.
The challenge was to use AI to create actionable data interpreted from public sources like the 50 DOT’s, and then to make a business case for why interpreted PFD data is a disservice when making the data accessible as high integrity data is easy to achieve and provides compliance with legislative mandates.
The real challenge was to see if the methods they pursued, the insight they gained, the innovations they created, and the platforms that are now operational, could be monetized by providing that initial low quality PDF data as a bridge while contributing towards industry wide adoption of digital ecosystems empowered by ISO.
The VC Pitch
Join us on August 8th at 5:00pmET for the next phase of their journey as the two teams present a five-minute pitch followed by five minutes of Q&A. The 30-minute pitch event will close with a ten-minute open Q&A and then a screening of the long lost Appollo film.
5:00 - 5:10 Texas &M
5:10 - 5:20 GMU
5:20 - 5:30 Q&A
5:30 Screening of: Space Age: From Dr. Goddard to Project Apollo
